Crime Numbers
The Michigan State Police publishes annual crime data and statistics for all the counties in the state. Its latest report shows that Ingham County recorded 11 murders, 312 rapes, 235 robberies, and 1,097 aggravated assaults in 2018. Reported incidences of property crimes include 1,371 burglaries, 5,146 larcenies, and 802 motor vehicle thefts.
The five-year crime trend for Ingham County reveals an 8.3% reduction in murder rate between 2014 and 2018. The county also recorded fewer robberies (20.3%), burglaries (10.4%), and arsons (67.7%) in the same period. On the other hand, the five-year crime trend for Ingham County shows falling rape (40.5%), aggravated assault (15.6%), larceny-theft (11.9%), and motor vehicle theft (53.3%) rates.
Criminal Records
The Michigan State Police provides criminal background checks for all the counties in the state. Citizens can search criminal history records online through the Internet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT). To request a background check, visit the ICHAT portal to search for criminal records. Each search costs $10. Visa and Mastercard credit/debit cards are accepted for payment.
The Central Records Division of the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office maintains and provides incident and accident reports for the county. The Ingham County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office maintains the records of the Circuit and Probate Courts. It makes these records available online to the public. These are accessible from the Ingham County Court record page.
To obtain copies of the Ingham Circuit Courts records, pay a visit to any of the court’s locations at the addresses listed above. The fee for regular copies of court records is $1.50 per page while there is an additional $10 charge for each certified copy. Fees are payable by Mastercard and Visa credit cards.

Vital Records
To obtain divorce records for Ingham County, visit the Ingham Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. Follow the same procedure described above for obtaining Circuit court records. Fees are also the same.
The Ingham County Clerk’s Office maintains birth, death, and marriage records for the county. The records available at the Clerk’s Office include birth and death records from 1867 through the present and marriage licenses from 1837 to the present.
To request a record, start by downloading and completing a Birth Certificate Request Form, Death Certificate Request Form, or Marriage License Request Form. The first copy of a birth, death, or marriage record costs $20. Each additional copy of the same vital record ordered at the same time costs $10, while expedited postage costs an additional $30. The Ingham County Clerk’s Office also accepts requests submitted via email, fax, and mail. The fees for email and fax requests are payable with credit/debit cards while check, money order, and credit/debit card are accepted for payment for mail requests.
