Crime Numbers
The Michigan State Police Department collates crime statistics for all counties in the state. Its records show that Saginaw County recorded 1,027 violent crimes and 3,053 property crimes in 2013. Compared to 2014 crime figures, violent and property crime rates fell by 4.6% and 19.3% respectively. A breakdown of crime figures in 2018 shows that the county recorded 17 homicides, 151 sexual offenses, 113 robberies, 746 aggravated assaults, 755 burglaries, 2,080 larcenies, and 218 motor vehicle thefts.
The most recent five-year crime trend for the county indicates that homicide (0.0%) and aggravated assault (0.1%) rates remained flat between 2014 and 2018 while sexual offense and motor vehicle theft rates increased by 5.6% and 21.8% respectively. In the same period, robbery (33.9%), burglary (14.5%), and larceny (23.5%) rates dipped.
Criminal Records
The Criminal Justice Information Center of the Michigan State Police provides criminal history records for all counties in the state. It offers name-based background checks and only provides fingerprint-based background checks when required by federal or state statutes.
To request a name-based background check for Saginaw County, visit the State Police website to use the Internet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT). Each search/request costs $10 payable by credit/debit card. When a fingerprint-based criminal history is needed, the requester must contact an approved Live Scan Vendor with a Live Scan request form to place the request.

Friends and family members can fund inmates' accounts by dropping off money orders in the red deposit box located at the jail intake ramp. Alternatively, they can mail money orders to the jail and address them to "Inmate Trust Account Administrator". Make sure to include the inmate's name and IB number in the memo section of the money order. The Clerk's office is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The fee for copies of court records is $1 per page. Certified copies attract an additional $10 fee per document.
Vital Records
Vital Records Office of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) provides divorce certificates for Saginaw County. It records include divorce certificates from 1897 to the present. To request a Saginaw County divorce record, print and complete the Divorce Certified Copies application form. A copy of a certified divorce record costs $34. There is an optional $12 fee for an expedited request. Include a check or money order for the required fees with a mail request.

The Saginaw County Clerk also provides copies of birth, death, and marriage records. The public can search and view these records at the Clerk's office during regular office hours. Vital records from 1995 to the present are digitized and can be searched online.
A certified copy may be requested in person or by mail. Download and complete the relevant application form to request a certified copy of Marriage, Birth, or Death Certificate. The Clerk's office charges $16 per copy of a vital record. Submit the completed application form alongside a money order for the processing fee and a copy of a valid ID to Clerk's office at Saginaw County Governmental Center (address above).
